NETTIE HORN is pleased to present Grey Areas, the first UK solo show of German artist Sinta Werner.
The exhibition will feature a large-scale in-situ installation as well as several smaller 3-D works and collages.
Werner’s elaborately constructed stage, within the main gallery, will structurally and optically disrupt the space by the careful creation of two illusory mirrors, both of which go on to reveal a virtual space behind their apparent presence. Werner’s architectonic installations are developed from different approaches in painting and in particular her aim to extend its very notion.
Her interest lies in the in-between state between picture and space through principles taken from the theatrical stage. In that context she engages with the tradition of illusionistic painting and Alberti’s metaphor of the visual pyramid.
Playing essentially with the architectural aspects of her surroundings, her works deconstruct and fragment the space – creating not merely optical illusions but even elaborate fictitious environments through which the viewer’s vision is deceived. Merging the genres of painting, sculpture, installation and architecture, Werner‘s practice deals with the concept of one-point-perspective – creating a unique viewing point from which the space appears flat and pictorial.

Le città invisibili di Italo Calvino, “l’ultimo poema d’amore alla città, nel momento in cui diventa sempre più difficile viverla come città”, fornisce un profondo livello di lettura dell’urbs contemporanea: attraverso la costruzione di città immaginarie, tracciate dalla memoria e dal desiderio, Calvino associa alla registrazione della reale débâcle cittadina una proiezione su un possibile recupero delle sue metastasi.
In questo filone letterario, il progetto Crisalide nasce come un piano di “perlustrazione” fotografica in progress del tessuto urbano e territoriale comasco.

This summer, we received the honor of bringing a touch of worship to a very awesome recycling happening.
The Oregon Country Fair, which is held in Eugene every year in July.
300 acres, 100,000 visitors, 12,000 volunteers, 100 recycling crew, 17 pick up trucks,hundreds of collection kiosks and two assembly line separation stations.
But even more awesome for waste conscious people was the practice of reusing metal silverware and cups for a festival of this large size.
The silverware was collected, sanitized and returned to the food vendors. This operation was repeated several times a day!

Il lavoro di Mercier analizza il ruolo degli oggetti nell’arte e il loro legame con l’ambiente dal quale provengono, soffermandosi in particolare sulla funzione simbolica e al tempo stesso pratica dei prodotti di consumo e indagando le relazioni che essi intrecciano con il design, l’architettura, la modernità e oltre, fino a soffermarsi sul loro ruolo sociale e politico.
Oscillando tra Costruttivismo, Minimalismo e Astrazione geometrica, l’artista crea strette relazioni con gli oggetti di uso quotidiano ricreandoli e riproponendoli in contesti diversi e con approcci differenti, quasi a liberarli dall’ormai consueta e accettata cognizione comune.

Cosa può nascere dalla concessione in comodato da parte del Comune di Trieste di una ex stazione di benzina?
Lo sapremo a partire da fine settembre quando, dopo il restauro architettonico del piccolo edificio in fondo alle Rive di Trieste, reso possibile da un finanziamento della Camera di Commercio di Trieste, si aprirà la nuovissima STAZIONE ROGERS che prende il nome dal famoso architetto italiano Ernesto Nathan Rogers e che sarà certamente il più originale centro di attività e informazioni culturali del Nord Est.

Immaginario Nucleare è un progetto che vuole raccontare attraverso lo sguardo dell’arte e della scrittura il passato e il presente del nucleare italiano, la sua vicenda umana e scientifica, le suggestioni dei suoi luoghi, le sue contraddizioni. La mostra, patrocinata dal Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico e realizzata in collaborazione con la PARC (Direzione generale per la qualità e la tutela del paesaggio, l’architettura e l’arte contemporanea) e il MAXXI, avrà luogo a Roma, alla Calcografia dal 16 ottobre al 16 novembre 2008.
3500 cm2 – Art poster exhibition with special project by Mathilde ter Heijne

3500 cm2 refers to the dimensions of a poster at the disposition of an artist to create an artwork.
The project, curated by Lorenzo Benedetti, was originally developed for Blueroom, a music and art event that takes place every Saturday evening at the Rialto Santambrogio, Rome.
Several hundred copies of each poster, distributed free of charge to the event’s public, are thus diffused throughout the city, continually creating new spectators/collectors of art.
