
This Fall we are featuring “Art Cans” in the big filthy city which is steadily cleaning up its act also thanks in part to the “Art Cans”. The attached image was taken in front of a building on 2nd street in the lower east side, nyc.
thanks to yanbuki photographer barbara gentile. The fluorescent yellow paint and the swiss cheese holes pattern are recognizable for a long distance. Ever since they have been set up to service the waste resource needs of this building, residents and passerbyes have been much more respectful in their handling of waste into them!
Expect to see more “artsy garbage cans” mushroom this fall particularly in the downtown east village area. The cans, the cages, the kiosks can all be originally decorated by an artist or a group of artists. This is a good focus where one can be both pragmatic and creative. (continua…)
